our mission - people

OUR MISSION:

We exist to reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus and lead them to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and Make a Difference.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is complete truth, without error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. (II Timothy 3:16)

GOD

The eternal, triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. (John 14:18-27; II Corinthians 13:14)

JESUS CHRIST

We believe in the Virgin Birth, the Begotten Sonship and Deity of Jesus Christ. That He was God and Man. (I Timothy 3:16; Matthew 1:23)

HOLY SPIRIT

We believe it is the will of God that each believer be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak with new tongues. (Acts 1:8; 19:1-6)

SALVATION

We believe in the salvation of sinners by grace, through repentance and faith. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:12, 22; Romans 5:11)

BAPTISM

We believe in the necessity of water baptism by immersion in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 10:47-48)

THE BELIEVER

We believe that every believer is given power to live a victorious, overcoming life by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 12:1; II Corinthians 7:1)

GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Spirit individually and corporately. (I Corinthians 12-14)

HEALING

We believe that divine healing through the redemptive work of Christ is available for every believer. (II Timothy 3:16)

COMMUNION

We believe in the table of the Lord commonly called communion or the Lord’s Supper, for believers. (I Corinthians 11:28-32)

ETERNITY

We believe in eternal life for believers (John 5:24, 3:16) and eternal punishment for unbelievers. (Mark 9:43-48; II Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:10-15)

Pastor Steve Austin

Founding Pastor

Pastor Steve was born the son of a carpenter and a homemaker in Lubbock, TX, in 1953. Unsure of what the future held for him, he left home at age 16. Within a decade, he met Pastor Cyndi, and began a 15-year journey of overcoming addiction, serving in ministry, and, eventually, founding Champions in 1993. He is a gifted Bible teacher who brings an authentic approach to scripture. He's incredibly generous and built Champions to make a difference for Jesus in our community. Pastor Steve retired in October of 2018.

Pastor Cyndi Austin

Founding Pastor

Pastor Cyndi is the daughter of ministers; her parents have pastored churches and preached the Gospel worldwide. As a result, she became passionate about Jesus at an early age. She has served in wide-ranging ministry areas throughout her life, from picking up kids for the church in a bus as a teenager to founding Champions alongside Pastor Steve in 1993. She is a constant encourager, always reaching out to those facing difficulties with words of wisdom and hope.

Pastor Matt Austin

Associate Pastor

Pastor Matt is passionate about praise and worship and has genuine faith in the power of God. He believes that what we read in scripture is available to believers of today. Sensing the call to lift people's spirits and call them into a deeper relationship with Jesus, he preaches with passion, conviction, and life at Champions and in churches worldwide. Pastor Matt is an avid sports fan and was a state-title-winning pitcher in high school. He and his wife Alexis have a dog named Obie.
