Champions Give 2016

Dear Champions Family,

One year ago, we kicked off a phenomenal initiative – Champions Give. I remember how excited I was to share with you the details, and now, one year later, I’m beyond thrilled to announce our 2nd annual Champions Give offering. We have the opportunity through this offering to impact our community, our city, our nation, and our world! Champions Give offering begins December 11th and continues through December 31, 2016.

Last year, we set a Champions Give goal of $50,000, and we not only met that goal, but we exceeded it because of your generosity. We were able to do some really cool things.

Together, we have accomplished so much:

  • Given away over $80,000 cash to outreach and missions efforts in our city, our nation, and our world
  • Helped spread the Gospel by assisting in planting over 150 churches
  • Helped 600 kids in our community start the school year with confidence
by giving them brand new backpacks filled with school supplies
  • Empowered two graduating seniors in our community with college scholarships
  • Shown Jesus’ love by giving over 12,000 free meals through the Friday Night
    Block Party
  • Constructed a new area for fellowship, the Champions Café
  • Refreshed and remodeled the Champions Lobby
  • Created a welcoming space in the lobby for information and directions, Champions Central
  • Repainted and refreshed the various hallways around the church

Wow! Just typing that list makes me grateful for what we’ve done over the last year, but much more than that, it makes me hopeful about what we’ll do in the days ahead.

There’s no way that any one of us could have done all of that on our own, but we’re better together, and we can do amazing things when we each do our part! I’m ready to dig deep, seek the will of God, fill it to the brim and do my part again this year.

What about you? Are you ready? Will you join me in digging deep, seeking the will of God, and doing your part?

When considering your offering for Champions Give, it’s really important to remember what God says about our finances. Scripture teaches us that our finances are not ours at all – but they are His. Remember the parable of the talents from Matthew 25?

The big takeaway is that God owns everything and He has called us to be good managers of what He’s given us. This perspective shift can absolutely change your life: “He’s the owner of all that I have, and I will be a good manager of what He’s given me.” A huge part of being a good manager for God means releasing a significant portion of “our” treasure back into the master’s work.

With Champions Give, we have the opportunity to use what God has given us to build the kingdom of God and to make a difference for eternity. Your participation in Champions Give this year will mean:

  • Increasing support for local, national and international ministry organizations
  • Providing graduating seniors with empowering college scholarships
  • Developing a program and creating an engaging classroom environment for children with special needs
  • Refreshing and repainting Children’s Ministry classrooms to most effectively reach and teach the children of our church and community
  • Refreshing and repainting Champions Community Center to create a more welcoming environment for our community for Friday Night Block Parties

At Champions, we pray first. Will you begin praying now about what God would have you give (over and above your regular tithing/giving) to Champions Give, on December 11th? Dig deep, seek the will of God, and do your part! We’re better together.

God Bless,

The Purposes of this Offering:

Increasing support for local, national and international ministry organizations

In Acts 1:8 Jesus mandated the church to reach people for Him in three areas: Locally (Jerusalem), Nationally (Judea and Samaria), and Internationally (to the ends of the earth). We are designating a portion of this Generosity Offering to support ministries and missions in each of these areas, including:

Local Missions/Organizations:

  • Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) (namonline.org)
  • Care Net Pregnancy Center of Northwest Houston (carenetnw.com)
  • Arrow Child and Family Ministries (arrow.org)
  • Champions Community Center (champcenter.org)
  • Gabriel’s House (gabrielshouse.cc)
  • Houston Food Bank (houstonfoodbank.com)

National Missions/Organizations:

  • Association of Related Churches (ARC) (arcchurches.com)
  • Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorproject.org)

International Missions/Organizations:

  • A21 Campaign (a21.org)
  • LIFE Outreach International (lifetoday.org)
  • Ima’s Home For Children (imashomeforchildren.com)

Developing a program and creating an engaging classroom environment for children with special needs

All of God’s children are special and deserve the very best in their spiritual education. We want to ensure that the children who require extra attention or a more hands-on approach have the programs and classroom environment that benefits them in the most effective way. Every child should have an exceptional experience on Sunday morning.

Providing graduating seniors with empowering college scholarships

One quarter of the U.S. population—70 million people—owe a collective $700 billion in student loan debt, and the number increases exponentially with each year and each study. Since education is the single best investment a person can make in their lifetime, we want our students seeking education, but in the book of Romans, Paul challenges us to owe nothing but love. We want to love our students by decreasing their need to take loans while pursuing their education.

Refreshing and repainting Children’s Ministry classrooms to most effectively reach and teach the children of our church and community

There is a season in a person’s life when they are most open to learning what it means to trust God. It’s a season—sometime between the ages of 4 and 14—when people are more moldable than they will ever be in their lifetime. We should be intentional about ensuring that they get the right impression about God and what He’s able to provide for them.

Refreshing and repainting Champions Community Center to create a more welcoming environment for our community for Friday Night Block Parties

Champions Community Center is the gateway for many of our community members to be introduced to our church and the love of Jesus. Every Friday night, hundreds of students and adults, alike, venture onto our property and experience God’s love and compassion. We should be steadfast to ensure we are presenting the best, God’s best, each and every time the doors are open.

FAQ

Why a Special Offering?

As part of God’s plan to grow the faith of the people in His church, He sometimes calls us to sacrificial giving from time to time. Champions Give is an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and to prepare us for what God wants to do through our church in 2017. This offering is not because we are behind on budget, but rather is to position us to make a greater impact in our city, in our church and around the world in the upcoming year.

What’s the Difference Between the Regular Offering and Champions Give?

The regular Champions offering is the proportional amount (the full tithe of 10%) that we set apart on a systematic basis and give throughout the year. From time to time there are opportunities to give in a sacrificial way. Champions Give is one of those sacrificial occasions that stretch us to grow in our faith. Champions Give participation should be over and above what you regularly give.

How Much Should I Give?

Since the goal is $100,000, Champions Give involves everyone. Please prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift that will stretch your faith. The precise amount you give is between you and God. Many in our church can give a $5,000, $10,000 or even a $25,000 gift. Others will be able to give between $100 and $500. The issue is not equal giving, but equal sacrifice. What amount can you give that will stretch your faith?

Why is the Goal So Large?

Since the beginning of Champions Community Church in 1993, we have been a church that has dared to dream big dreams for God, and we’ll keep dreaming one size too big because He shows up every time. The ministries supported by this offering are BIG – supporting local, national, and international missions and organizations. Big dreams require big faith and big funding. The accomplishment of these big dreams will be determined by your participation in Champions Give.

When Should I Give?

The official kickoff is Sunday, December 11th – please pray about making your best gift on that day. However, you can continue to give until December 31st.

Are My Gifts Tax-Deductible?

All gifts to Champions Community Church, whether via the regular offering or this Special Offering, are completely tax-deductible. Your gift will be deductible in the tax year given (i.e., gifts given in 2016 will be deductible on your 2016 taxes). Please be sure to include your name and address when you give so that a receipt can be sent to you for your tax preparations. You are not required to utilize a tax-deduction for your gift, but it is available for all gifts.
